50 Major Tours Sites in Fujian

1.  Mount Wuyishan: Lying in the north part of Fujian Province, Mount Wuyishan is one of the earliest excellent tourist cities in China, the state-level key scenic spot, state natural reserve, state-level tourist resort, and first class airport. It was listed by UNESCO on the World Natural and Cultural Heritage Sites in December 1999.  Mount. Wuyishan is blessed with beautiful scenery, rich human resources, lots of historic relics, and abundant natural resources. The average annual temperature is 17-19 ˚c. It is suitable for tourism all the year round.
2.  Gulangyu Islet: Lying at the southwestern corner of Xiamen Island, it covers an area of 1.91 square kms, with a population of over 20,000. The islet is blessed with many musicians. The density of piano on the islet is number one in China. Many different style architecture buildings have been kept on the islet. The islet enjoys the reputation as “ The Piano Island” “ Home of Music” “ Museum of 10,000 styles of architectures.” On the islet, one can enjoy both the beauty of the scenery and the fragrance of the flowers without been annoyed by the noise of traffic. It is the first choice by tourists when you come to Xiamen.
3. Golden Lake of Taining: Lying in Sanming city, it is the state-level key scenic spot, state-level Grade 4A tourist zone, national forest park, and was awarded Global Geo-Park in Feb. 2005. In the ancient town of Taining, one can find not only the best-kept residential buildings of the Ming Dynasty in the South of Yangtze River, the building groups of relics under the state preservation, but also visit the well-maintained streets, alleys and residential houses of the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
4.  Meizhou Island: Lying at the estuary of Meizhou Bay in the middle part of the West Bank of the Taiwan Straits, it covers an area of 14.35 square kms, 1.8 nautical miles away from the Wenjia wharf on the mainland, and 72 nautical miles away from the Taizhong Port of Taiwan. It has always been the bridgehead for the exchanges among people between Fujian and Taiwan. It is the home of Mazu, the world famous “ Peaceful Sea Goddess” and the origin place of Mazu culture. The Unique Mazu culture is strongly attractive to overseas Chinese, especially Taiwanese Compatriots.  
5. Guanzaishan Mountain:Being 1.5 kms to the east of Liancheng County, western part of Fujian, it is named after the shape of the mountain which is similar to the ancient official hat. Covering an area of 123 square kms, it composes Guanzai mountain, shimen lake, Zhu’an Stockaded Village, Qishi Stockaded Village and Jiulong Lake.  The Mountain is both magnificent and beautiful with rising peaks, green mountains and clear water, integrating hills, water, rocks, caves, spring, temple and garden in one scene. In addition, the Hakka culture enriches its culture connotation.
6. Taoyuan Cave (Peach Blossom Cave): Lying in the north part of Yong’an City, one of the excellent tourist cities of China, by the state highway 205, covering an area of 28.78 square kms, The resort is composed of five scenic spots, such as Taoyuan cave, Baizhang Rock, Xiuzhu Bay, Geli and Pinglv Pool. It is named because of its magnificent peaks, beautiful hills and clear water, just like a land of peach blossoms. The “One-thread-sky”, once highly praised by Xu Xiake, a well-know traveler, won the Guiness Record.
7. Qingyun Mountain: Lying in Yongtai county of Fuzhou City. The main peak is 1130 meters above sea level. Covering an area of 50 square kms, it boasts 9 peaks of 1000m high, with 9 streams running through it. In the Song Dynasty, Xiao Guoliang, a scholar used to study hard on the mountain, and got number one during the official examination in Beijing, and was promoted from then one, becoming the first Number One Scholar in Yongtai, therefore, the mountain got its name “Qingyun”, meaning climbing up to the sky. There are tourist attractions like Qinglong Waterfall, Yuntian stone passage, White horse, ect.
8. Mount Taimu: Lying in Fuding, eastern part of Fujian Province, it is 1008 meters above sea level, covering an area of 60 square kms. The landforms take its shape because of the incoming rising underground magma during Yanshan Movement. Facing the sea, it consists of six kinds of land forms, such as mountains and rivers, islands, waterfalls, ancient temples, villages and castles. It also enjoys the reputation as “ Fairyland on the Sea”. It is the state key scenic spot.
9. Baishuiyang: Lying in Pingnan, east part of Fujian Province, it is surrounded by green hills, with two clear stream joining together on the rock bed which is about 80, 000 square meters, of which, the biggest one is over 40,000 square meters, with 182 meters in maximum width. The water shines in the sun, hence, “ Baishuiyang” ( White Water Ocean)
10.  Drum Mountain: Lying in the southeastern part of Fuzhou, northern bank of the Min River, it is 969 meters above sea level, covering an area of 1890 hectares. Drum Mountain is the state key scenic area. It is named after the huge rock on top of the mountain, sounding like drum beaten in rain and wind. It is green all year round with more than 160 places of interests and historical relics, such as Yongquan Temple ( Spring Gushing Temple), 18 tourist attractions of Damo, White Cloud Cave, and Guling, etc.
11.  Haitan Island, also named Pingtan Island. Being surrounded by sea, as it looks like Altar on the sea, it has been called “ Haitan Island” ( Altar on the Sea Island). It is only 68 nautical miles away from Xinzhu Port of Taiwan, the closest county to Taiwan on the Mainland. The main island covers an area of 251 square kms, making itself the fifth biggest island in China, and the biggest island in Fujian. As the state key scenic spot, it enjoys the reputation as “ The number one sea beach in China” “ The number one wave erosion landform in the world”
12.  Qingyuan Mountain: State key scenic spot. Covering an area of 62 square kms, it is 2 kms away from the famous historical culture city –Quanzhou. With the magnificent outlook, beautiful scenery, unique caves and flying waterfalls, Qingyuan Mountain was known for its 36 caves in the past. Now, there are 3 Key Cultural Relics under state preservation, and over 600 calligraphy inscriptions over the history. Both the treasure cultural relics and wonderful nature landscape keep tourists lingering on.
13.  Yuhua Cave: Lying at the foot of Tianjie Mountain, 7 kms south to Jiangle County, north of Fujian Province, it got its name because of the shining jade-like rock in caves. Xu Xiake, a well-known scholar in history, once wrote down an article on Tours of Yuhua Cave. The cave is 5 kms long. The main cave is 2.5 kms in length, and there are other 6 branch caves. Together with Mount. Wuyishan and Gold Lake, it constitutes the famous “Green Triangle” Tourist route.
14.  Wanshi Botanical Garden: Lying in the city center of Xiamen City, covering an area of 2.27 square kms, it is the state key scenic spot and one of the first batches of 4A grade tourist area. Over the past 4 decades since the garden was built, it has introduced and cultivated more than 5300 plant species, and established more than 10 special plant gardens with different characteristics such as Garden of Pines and Firs, Rose Garden, and Hundred Flower Garden, of which, Cactus and Palm trees are second to none in China.
15.  Fuzhou National Forest Park: Lying in the northern suburb of Fuzhou city, it covers an area of 859.3 hectares. The park is not only beautiful in scenery with green hills and clear water, but also is rich in scientific connotation. With over 1700 kinds of plant species, it is one of the key scientific education bases. The scenic area integrates the forest tours, holiday tours with forestry scientific education.
16. Chongwu Ancient City: The key relic under state preservation. Built in the 20th year of the reign of Hongwu of the Ming Dynasty (1387), it is situated on the southeastern part of Chongwu Peninsula in southern Fujian. Built in granite stones, it is the only well-kept stone city in China. “The Stone Caving Museum”, which involved in huge amount of investment, exhibits more than 500 stone caving works, and hundreds of rock caving works.
17. Kaiyuan Temple: Lying in the busy west street of Quanzhou City, built in the 2nd reign of Cuigong of the Tang Dynasty (686 AD), it boasts an area of 78000 square meters. In the temple, one can visit the imposing East and West Pagodas, the rarely seen mountain gate –Heavenly Kings Hall, Hundred-Pillar Hall, and Sweet Dew Warning Altar. The only one Guardian worrior in China, the Wufang Buddha, the flying musicians and the Hinduist stone caving are rare treasures in the world, and the 1300-year old mulberry tree is unrivaled.
18. Qingshui Rock: Lying 24 kms west to Anxi County, south of Fujian, it is the provincial-level scenic spot and cultural relics under provincial preservation with quiet and tastefully laid out scenery and clear spring. The scenery covers an area of 12.3 square kms, with 66 cultural relics and natural wonder, with Qingshui Rock Temple as its hub zone, and integrating sightseeing, recreation, holiday with sports .
19. Fujian Earthen Dwelling Buildings: Scattering in Yongding, Nanjing and Hua’an counties, they are the residential houses for Hakka People for generations. They are famed as the unique wonder of world residential buildings with its long history, unique style, exquisite structure and grand scale. There are over 23000 earthen dwelling buildings with more than 30 styles including round buildings, square buildings, pentagon buildings, octagonal buildings and suspension buildings, forming the earthen dwelling building groups backed up by green mountains and with rational layout.
20.  The Site of Gutian Meeting: The western part of Fujian is a red hot place, famed as “ red capital”. Gutian in Shanghang county is the venue where the Ninth Representative Conference of the 4th Corps of the Red Army. Gutian Meeting is the milestone in the history of our party and army. During the ages of Revolutionary war, 12,700 heroic people of Shanghang people participated in the revolutionary team, and made great sacrifice for the liberation work of the nation and the birth of new China.
21.  Volcanic Geo-park: Zhangzhou Coastal Volcanic National Geo-park is a typical volcanic geo-park , covering an area of 100 square kms. The park maintains the structure trace of volcano eruption and the later weathered and eroded landform, as well as basalt landform shaped from 140 pillar joints, which shock people with its beauty. It is the tourist resort integrating the protection of geological relics and scientific research with sightseeing tours.
22. Tanshishan Culture: Lying in the suburb of Fuzhou, Tanshishan culture has a history of over 4-5000 years, with Tanshishan relic in Minhou as its representative. Centered on the mid and lower reaches of the Min River, linking Fujian and Taiwan, Tanshishan culture is the cradle of Fujian Ancient Culture. The relic has been excavated for eight times, and two thirds of them haven’t been excavated yet.
23.  Tianfu Tea Museum: Lying in Zhangpu, Zhangzhou, the main hall of the Tianfu Tea Museum covers an area of 3000 square meters. The first floor exhibits the technology of tea, the discovery, utilization, evolution of tea, the main events concerning tea in Chinese history, the famous spring in China, the production of tea in China, the tea garden scene, various producing ways of tea and the exhibition of samples, the tea-drinking customs of various ethnic groups; the second floor shows the tea production in the world, the tea culture of different countries, modern tea arts, tea sets, tea and poem, tea and calligraphy, tea and health as well as the multiple utilization of tea.
24.  Flower Museum: Lying in the center of hundred-li-long-flower corridor of the suburb of Zhangzhou city, it has convenient access to Guangdong, Hongkong, Fuzhou and Xiamen. The state Highway 324 with daily capacity of 20,000 runs through it. The museum boasts six gardens, six halls, one market, and one village, integrating tourism, recreation, holiday, exhibition, shopping with business and trade.
25.  Longxi Mountain: Lying in the southwestern part of Jiangle county, it is the state ecological natural reserve, covering an area of 15,700 hectares, boasting more than 40 one-thousand-meter high peaks. It is a well-known tourist attraction with screen-like peaks, deep valleys, running springs, flying waterfalls as well as abundant animal and plant resources.
26.  Three lanes and seven alleys: Lying in the Nanhou Street of downtown Fuzhou, 10 lanes and alleys lining from north to south, covering an area of 40 hectares. Quite a number of these lanes and alleys have maintained since the Tang and Song Dynasties, forming the hub of the historical cultural city of Fuzhou. The houses with white walls and tiles, well-knit lay-out, exquisite decoration, unique technique show the characteristics of the ancient city of Fujian, and is famed in the architecture area as “the museum of the ancient architectures of the Ming and Qing Dynasties”
27.  Attraction of Eighteen Streams: Lying over 20 kms away from Fuzhou, named after the eighteen streams, it is rich in tourist resource, integrating hills, water, with caves and rocks, It is natural and simple, but full of wildness. There are over 100 attractions in the scenic spot, the most famous one is the attraction of eighteen streams and eighteen scenes.                
28. Shizhu Mountain: Lying 10 kilometers away from Fuqing City, it belongs to the Southern part of Xishan Mountains of Daiyun Mountains in the central of Fujian Province. The main peak is 534 meters high, and is named after its grotesque stones and beautiful bamboos. In 1987, Shizhu Mountain was listed in the first group of provincial-level scenic spot. The use of cable cars provides the tourists with safe and comfortable modern means of transportation.

29. Kah-kee Park: Lying in the southeast seaside of Jimei, Xiamen, it was founded by the patriotic overseas Chinese Tan Kah-kee in 1950 in commemoration of the liberation of Jimei.  The Turtle Park is built in the sea with granite and bluestone. Inside the entrance of the garden, there is a fifty-meter-long corridor, whose two-wing walls were engraved with 40 vivid and life-like bluestone relief sculptures of some outstanding figures in Chinese historical tales. In the middle of the garden stands a 28-meter-tall towering Monument to the Liberation Monument written by Mao Zedong. The monument attracts great respect from people. 

30. Dongshan Wind Rock: Lying in Dongshan County of Zhangzhou, a huge round rock stands towards the sea with 4.37 meters high, 4.57 meters wide, 4.69 meters long and 200 Tons in weight. The peach-shaped rock sits on a large flat stone for no more than one meter, and it shakes slightly in the strong wind. This is the famous Dongshan Wind Rock, and is regarded as “the No. 1 rock in the world”.
31. Zhaojia Castle: Lying in the southeast of Zhangpu County, Zhangzhou City, it was the asylum of Zhao Ruo, the King of Minchong County, the last royal family of Song Danasty who withdrew from Yashan Guangdong. The castle is divided into Inner City and Outer City. There is a three-storied and rectangular “Wanbi Tower” in the Inner City, which means returning the jade intact to its owner. The tower is 20 meters high, 88 meters in circumference, with 48 rooms. The whole tower is a combine of residence and defense. It is one of the key culture relic unit protected by the State.
32. Sanping Temple: Lying in Wenfeng mountainous areas of Pinghe County, Zhangzhou City, built in 826, the second year Baoli Reign of Tang Dynasty, the temple was built along the mountain with flourish bamboos and beautiful scenery. The temple covers an area of 3000 square meters in two parts. The front part includes the gate, the Bell and Drum Tower, the Monks’ house and the Grand Hall; the rear part includes Ancestral Hall, Tower Palace, and Fast Room. In the autumn of 1937, the Third Regiment and the Ninth Regiment of Red Army met here and reorganized as the Second Column of The New Fourth Army to march northward to fight against the Japanese.
33. Jiuli (Nine Carps) Lake: Lying in the mountains in the northeast of Xianyou County, Putian City, 25 kilometers away from Xianyou, it is 475 meters above sea level with an area of 2000 square meters. According to legend, during the reign of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, nine He brothers made elixirs here and later rose as immortals riding carps and thus the lake got its name. This scenic spot is famous for its lake, caves, rocks and especially the waterfalls, which has been praised in the saying “The waterfalls on the Jiuli Lake is unsurpassably wonderful on the Divine Land”. The famous traveler of the Ming Dynasty, Xu Xiake, ranked the Lake with Wuyi Mountain and Yuhua Cave as “Three Wonders of Fujian Province”.
34. Fenghuang (Phoenix) Mountain: also named Nan Shan Mountain. Lying in the west of Putian City, one kilometer away from Putan City, it is named after its Phoenix shape. The Guanghua Temple in the south of Phoenix Mountain is one of the famous ancient Buddhist temples in Fujian Province. In the area, there are other ten spots, like Smoke in stone house, Pearl waterfall, etc. In the creek scattered tens of groups of stone carvings.
35. Jiulongji (Nine-dragons Gatherings): It is located at the downstream of Qibuxi, 13 kms away from Zhouning County, East of Fujian. According to legend, there were nine dragons gathering here, hence the name. Its length is about 1,500m, with 300 m-high drop. Among the high mountains and the grotesque rocks are 13 waterfalls, forming a giant picture of water curtains, with the water flying through the valleys, the waterfalls and the pools running one after the other among the rocks , ridges and peaks. 
36. Longkong Cave: Lying 30 kms away from Longyan City, it is a karst cave formed 300 million years ago, with 240m in length, 120m in maximum width and 15m in maximum height. The cave is divided into two layers with caves mingled. There are 10 relatively big caves in the cave, each of these cave has smaller caves in it. All these caves are full of twists and turns and changeable just like a natural labyrinth.
37. Dong Shi ( East Lion) Mountain: Lying in the east of Zherong County, East of Fujian Province, it is the highest peak of Taimu Mountain, with the altitude of 1479m and coverage of 25 square kms. It looks like a lion, hence the name of Dong Shi (East Lion). The mountain boasts bizarre peaks and grotesque rocks in various forms as well as deep and shallow caves. The mountain is also blessed with rare bamboos and trees, exotic flowers and grasses, treasure birds and animals as well as valuable medical herbs.
38. Ruiyun Mountain: Lying 14 kms to the center of Sanming City, it is named because clouds curl up in the mountain all the year round. It covers an area of 10 square kms. The main scenic spots include Ruiyun Cave, Gold Cave, Changshou Spring (Longevity Spring), Xianren Pool (Fairy Pool), Sandieyan (Three-layer Rock)and Matoufeng (Horse-head Peak) etc.
39. Swan Cave: it is situated in the Hucun Basin, 33 kms northeast of Ninghua County . The mountain got its name because of its swan-like shape, and the stalactite in the cave is as white as the feather of the swan. The main cave is 355.4m long in four stories, seven halls and 49 spots. There are also innumerous small halls and scenes. There are abundant stalactites in the cave, including the stalagmite, stone curtains, stone columns, stone bamboo shoots stone flowers, forming a splendid and harmonic picture.
40 Sandu Bay: Lying on the southeast of Ningde City, 30 kms from the downtown, it is the gateway of east Fujian, the “Throat of five cities”, with a sea area of 714 square kms, comprising of 19 inlands. Since the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty, it has been a commercial port. The port takes the shape of a bag, with small mouth and big belly, therefore, when there are huge waves outside the port, it is still very calm inside the port. The port is blessed with favorable conditions, beautiful scenery with 5 islands, 14 islets, 17 reeves and 5 tidal lands.

41. Liyuxi (Carps Creek): Lying in the east of Zhouning County, flowing through the village, the creek is about 500 meters long, less than seven meters wide and no more than one meter deep. About 7000-8000 colorful carps live here, the big ones weighting more than ten kgs. They will arrive at the sound of human beings and gather at their shadows. Each time when the maids wash the food or utensils at the creek, the carps will come around for food. The villagers have made a rule not to kill one carp, and this rule has been observed for generations.

42. Chi’an: It is situated 5 kms east to Chi’an Town, Xiapu County. In the 22nd year of Zhenyuan Reign, Tang Dynasty (804 A.D.), the Japanese high-ranking monk Konghai visited China for Buddism with the envoys of Japan for the 17th time. On the way, he was hit by typhoon and finally landed at Chi’an after floating on the sea for 34 days. He transferred from Fuzhou to Chang’an to study Buddhism and created the Zhenyanzong of Buddhism after returning to Japan. As a result, Chi’an has been regarded as the “Saint Place” by the adherents of Konghai. In the village there are the pavilions of Jihaiting (sacrifice to the sea) and Wanghaiting (watch the sea), and Historical Museum of Chi’an.

43. Anzhen Castle: It is situated in Yong’an City of Sanming. The construction of the castle started in the 11th year of Guangxu Reign of the Qing Dynasty (1885) and lasted 14 years. It covers an area of 15 mu, and cost a large sum of gold. It consists of 150 rooms. The wall of the castle is 10m in height and 4m in thickness. Inside the wall, there is a surrounding path of 1.5m in width. The castle is divided into upper and lower halls. The walls are dotted with numerous loopholes. The layout is in harmony and the style is plain and classic. It is listed as the cultural relic under state preservation.

44. Qingzhi Mountain: also called Hundred Cave Mountain, lying 6 kms to the south of Lianjiang County, Fuzhou, the resort was established during the Tianqi reign of the Ming Dynasty, comprising of 180 spots, including five peaks, ten caves, sixteen rocks, thirty-five stones and one lake, two chambers, three platforms as well as four springs, etc.

45. Jiyan (Beauty Rock): It is situated in Yongtai county, Fuzhou, 23km to the county downtown. Peak Damao, the highest peak, is 1237m above sea level. The concubine of Wangshenzhi, the king of Min during the Five Dynasties (907-960) were buried here, hence the name of Jiyan (Beauty Rock). There are over 60 spots around, including the Luohanyan (Arhat Rock), Putuo Rock, Thunderbolt Cave, Longdujin and Guanyinyan (Goddess Rock), etc.

46. Jiuxian ( Nine Immortals) Mountain: It lies to the northeast of Dehua County. The legend has it that nine hermits once lived here, all of whom become immortals, hence the name of Jiuxian (nine immortals). The mountains of Jiuxian are high into the clouds. In the Maitreya Cave, there is a statute of Maitreya, which was carved out of a natural rock, with 2.2m high and 3m wide, plain and vigorous. It was done by the monk Wubi of the Kaiyuan Reign of the Tang Dynasty before his death. The statue is one of the early Buddhist statutes in Southern Fujian. The natural scenery in the mountain is quiet and secluded, with grotesque rocks, deep caves,  lush green forest and clear spring pools.

47. The History Museum of Marine Transportation: Lying in the east suburb of Quanzhou City, it is the sole marine museum in China. It consists of three exhibition halls: Hall of History of Marine Transportation in Quanzhou, Exhibition Hall of Exported Porcelains in Ancient Quanzhou, Religious Stone Carving Inscriptions Hall. These exhibitions show Quanzhou is the starting point of the Silk Road on the sea, also an important place for research of religious culture and art exchanges between ancient China and foreign countries.

48. Fugai (Floating Cover) Mountain: Lying in Pucheng County, north of Fujian Province, it is the boundary line of Fujian and Zhejiang Provinces. As the rocks pile up, the lower rock winding up and the upper rock covering down, hence the name. The highest peak is 1146 meters. Dayun Temple, which is in the west of the main peak, was built in the Song Dynasty.

49. Zhiti Mountain: Lying in the northwest of Ningde City, over 40 kms away from the downtown, the mountain stretches 25kms, with the main peak, Huading Peak, at 1139m in altitude. The mountain covers an area of 76 square kms, among which the water area of Huotong Creek is 6 square kms. There are 99 peaks and 36 caves around. In 1934, the East Fujian Independent Division of the Red Army was founded here. Now it is one of the tourist resorts at the provincial level.

50. Zhishan Red Building: Lying at the foot of Zhishan, Zhangzhou City, it is a two-storey brick building. It was the residence of Chairman Mao and the East Line of Red Army during the Great Revolution Period. Now it is the Museum of the Capturing of Zhangzhou City by Chairman Mao-led Red Army.
